Differences Between UI And UX Design

Design Tools

UI(User interface) and UX(User Experience) design

DESIGN

Design itself is a broad subject that isn’t limited to graphics design. Design is associated with creativity, colors and graphics.

Design related roles are available in different domains aside tech, designs like fashion design, interior design, pattern design, etc. All of these designs are to achieve same goal which is to satisfy user satisfaction putting into consideration how the user feels while using the product.

UI and UX designers has emerged as an upfront role in design with its meaning unfamiliar to non designers and designers from other fields.

UI and UX

UX design refers to user experience design, while UI design stands for user interface design. Both of these are crucial to an IT product and need to work closely together.
Despite being very integral to each other, the roles themselves are quite different, involving distinct processes.

UI

A UI designer handles the designing and prototyping of the screen(s) putting in mind design fundamentals(color and contrast, spaces and pattern)

As user, UI is what you use to interact with the product.

UI interface elements includes the input controls, navigation element, information components ,containers, etc.

UX

User experience refers to the overall emotions or feelings of a user when interacting with the product.

A UX designer work with psychological state of the user when using the service, so lot of things has to be put into considerations to ease a good user experience responsiveness. The designer must position himself in the state of the user as he designs the product.

User experience design is specifically for the maximum satisfaction a user derives when using the product i.e ease of use, quality and efficiency.

A product with good UX will be Useful, usable, desirable, findable, accessible, and credible.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UI AND UX

A UI DESIGNER IS NOT A UX DESIGNER

Something that looks great but difficult to use is an example of great UI and poor UX. Something very usable but looks terrible is example of great UX and poor UI

When you come to think of it, the above layman’s understanding isn’t entirely true from a user’s point of view. If either one of of UI or UX is poor, the user senses an inferior product. Which means, both UI and UX need to more than just great individually. It’s only when they blend together seamlessly does either of the two, and by extension the product, become great.

Design Tools

Wireframing and Prototyping

Wireframing is a hand drawing or sketch of the ideas and general concept of the product. Putting ideas into paper. Sketching of home page, features, contact page, etc.

Prototyping is the use of some design tools to design the wireframe. With prototype, the designer can test how the product really works and will be able to experience the interaction between the user and the product unlike the raw product in wireframing.

Design tools include figma , Adobe XD, etc. While figma is a web based design tool, Adobe XD is a desktop software. figma

A frontend developer takes those designs and uses html, css and javascript to make them work.
